Things have been busy around here! We’ve had lots of family events, gone to a great concert (David Crowder Band’s final tour) and had our first colds of the season (thankfully Luke didn’t get sick, just Ian and I). I was able to get a little sewing in the other night, which made me quite happy.
I actually bought the material a few weeks before Luke was born (a great find at my favorite thrift store in Mount Vernon, Bargains Galore). I think that I ironed and cut the pieces before he arrived… although it might also have happened when he was a newborn. Anyways, I loved the material because I wanted a fall/winter-ish purse. And I decided that I’d make the diaper bag pattern out of Lotta’s Simple Sewing for Baby. I told you I really love Lotta’s designs. It’s not a traditional looking diaper bag; it definitely looks more like a purse. It was an easy pattern so I knew it was right for me. Here is my lovely new friend:
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, considering that I whipped it out in a couple hours. I love the front pockets for keys and my cell phone. I might adjust the button a little lower, but overall I’m pretty pleased with it. I do think this would be a very small diaper bag – maybe it’d work for a toddler or older baby, but there is no way I could haul all of Luke’s cloth diapers, changes of clothes and bottles in this. But I definitely recommend it as an easy purse to make.
